Forgotten Heroes | An ode to Dutch Craftmanship

For three years, I travelled across the country of The Netherlands in search of the most extraordinary remaining traditional crafts, to capture them in all their glory. Over 200 pages present you will find more than 150 photos of 17 different crafts.

This makes the book a never-before-seen document, showcasing the enormous diversity, richness, and importance of Dutch craftmanship.

Each chapter contains essential stories about crafts and their importance to the Netherlands. The pictures have been carefully thought out and composed to put the world of Dutch crafts on a pedestal.

The scenes have been created in consultation with the artisans to capture this world respectfully and truthfully. The photographs are a representation of how things are still going on today.

Publisher ‘Komma’ is a world renowned name in the field of unique art books for art collectors. They are raising attention worldwide with their pieces 'The Rijksmuseum, van Gogh and Miffy which are up to almost a meter tall and costs 10,000 euro.

I am so excited to announce that ‘Forgotten Heroes’ can now be added to this list with a special editions. We worked hard and invested to get the material and quality as good as possible which is appropriate for the limited edition.

A true collector's item with luxurious touches, such as the black-painted edges of the paper. This gives the book an total-black appearance. The book is signed and numbered, up to the 100 pieces. The book also comes with a signed print, limited to 25 pieces as well with a sticker sheet to put your own images on the cover.

“We are not just another Publisher, we want to make each book a unique piece of art. Something the world will not forget.”

The vision of Forgotten Heroes has been implemented throughout the entire design of the book. First of all, we “forgot” to put the photo on the cover, so you - the buyer - get to chance to choose your own hero and place it on the cover.

The book is bound with orange yarn and an orange ribbon. The limited edition books are finished with black painted edges of the paper so the whole book is black.

In the book, you will find a tribute to the Dutch masters who, centuries ago, also put craftsmen on a pedestal in the form of engravings. We have printed these works with white semi-opaque ink on black paper to preserve the character of the etchings.

Finally, the Dutch text in each chapter is printed semi-transparently because Dutch culture is in danger of disappearing in the stories in the book. In some chapters, you will find QR codes that you can scan to watch a short film about the craft in question.

This limited gives Dutch culture back the allure it deserves. The limited box will come with a signed certificate of authenticity.
