WEAVERY HOUSE - ZAANSE SCHANS

Zaandam is known for its huge amount of production, first by mills but later also with factories. However also its cottage industry was a important part of their export. Weaving is an important example of this. These scenes are inspired by the situation from the 18th century. The family worked together from early morning until late at night. They produced cloth for a wealthy controlling owner. It was a hard existence with a lot of disparity and hierarchy.
