Article for Landleven Magazine

The popular magazine Landleven asked me to photograph a series about the ancient sport named Kolfing. A sport that is still played in a beautiful tavern from 1585 in the small village of Wormer.

Kolfing is a ball sport that has been practiced since the Middle Ages and was even bigger than today’s soccer.
With a wooden stick, a heavy leather ball must hit a iron post in as few strokes as possible and end up within the rings with each different points.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the sport of kolf lost its popularity due to the rise of billiards in pubs, where more tables could fit in the pub. In a few places in Friesland and North-Holland the game is still played.
In this beautiful historic tavern from 1585 in Wormer, the tradition of the game is still upheld.
